There’s nothing like a studio class with others. And after so long from being able to practice together it will be a joy to finally lay down the mats and join each other for practice. While restrictions are still in place all classes fully comply to COVID requirements. This does mean that studio capacity is reduced and while this gives you peace of mind it does mean places are limited so book now to avoid disappointment. 

 
Meditating

Unwind

A shorter 45 minute, gentle class that focuses on meditation and breath to shed the day's stresses and strains, some stretching to ease out the kinks and a yoga 'power nap' that will in turn re-energise you for the rest of the day and alleviate that early evening slump.  An opportunity to bag a quick yoga-fix on the way home from work perhaps, and leave the efforts of the day behind before you even step thorough your front door. Suitable for all levels from beginners upwards.

Connect

Start Sundays in the best possible way. Connecting all the elements of yoga: breath, body, mind and spirit.  A slightly longer 1 hour 30 min class that allows for a holistic approach offering relaxation, asanas (postures), breath practices, meditation and some theory thrown in every now and then for good measure.  Suitable for all levels from beginners upwards.

I have practiced yoga for a little over 25 years; half of my life - wow!  As a stressed 25 year old in a new managerial role I thought I’d give yoga ‘a go’ to help me relax and switch off from work so I signed up to an evening class at my local High School. 


I can still vividly remember the guided meditation given at the start of that 1st class and I’ve been hooked ever since.  Not only did yoga give me the relaxation I was looking for but I found, as an ex-gymnast, I was able to maintain my flexibility and fix (or at least help) some of the physical issues I was left with from the aggressive world of gymnastics (not least having my shoulders dislocated on purpose in Bulgaria aged 14 – ouch!).  


My original yoga teacher, Kathleen Liptrot, taught me yoga for over 20 years until she retired, even teaching me up to 4 days before the birth of my beautiful daughter and it certainly helped me in my pregnancy, childbirth and as a new Mum.  Kathleen suggested a few times that I take up teaching but it never felt like the right time.  She also encouraged me to try different classes, styles and teachers and with around 20 teachers under my belt, I have a wealth of experience to pass on.


I have had many excellent teachers along the way and 1 or 2 very questionable ones as well!  I have practiced under the shade of palm trees in the Caribbean; in the leafy green oasis of Central Park in New York; amongst the amazing vortex activity in the Arizonan desert...as well as draughty high school classrooms and church halls and of course the sanctuary of my own bedroom. 


Yoga. Everywhere. Anywhere. 


Latterly I have been a student at The Den in Wigan and found Tiffany’s mindful style of teaching a beautifully relaxing yet challenging and powerful one which she makes sure is accessible to all her students.  


At the beginning of 2020 I was sat in The Den and had a light bulb moment.  Inspired by Tiffany I challenged myself to finally take the plunge into teaching and after a weekend away with no internet connection, I came up with a business idea on scraps of paper.  So, despite spending much of the last 13 months in lockdown, I am now in a position to move my ideas forward; indeed my best friend Catherine said to me recently, “what a great thing to have done with your time over lockdown” and I suppose I have to agree.


So I now feel privileged to have been asked to teach at The Den in Wigan. 


I would describe my own teaching style as a blend of Hatha and Iyengar, offering a holistic approach with relaxation, postures, breath, meditation and a little yoga theory and philosophy thrown in now and then for good measure.


A yoga journey is never over or complete; it just evolves and grows.  


There is always something new to learn, revisit, or try differently.  So I hope you will join me on the next part of my own yoga journey.


I am not only a yoga teacher but wife, mother, daughter, sister, niece, auntie, cousin, friend, colleague, mentor and counsellor.  My family and friends are the centre of my universe, closely followed by all the young people I have had the honour of working with over the years.  Thank you all for helping me make this happen.
